Bittersweet
Been studying with the company of my boyfriend, Wee Nam (Again?! Are you sure this's Hanxiang's blog?!), YES, AGAIN. In any case, Wee Nam is not a playboy. I'm his One.And.Only, so it must be me. ;)
Suddenly thought of a 欠扁问答题, a tricky one:
Question: What's the most messy thing you've seen in your life?
.
.
.
.
Answer: You must be wrong if you've got an answer, cause you haven't seen the state of my hair now. That is the answer I want.
I actually meant for it to be messy. Anyhow tie, very good. Gives me the desolate-and-inconsolable-and-miserable-because-I-am-in-the-middle-of-stupid-exams-preparation look. I LIKE.
So, people who have gone through or are doing National Service, stop claiming that girls know nothing about hardship and war and whatever, alright? We fight battles in school, twice a year. Moreover, they're not even simulated, they're reeeeaaal. Don't prepare for them, die rightfully. Prepare for them, die(still. it happens. for dumb people like me. *sniff*) and never rest in peace.
Ok lah, I'm actually not really that grumpy about the exams. I actually enjoy them, just spare me the results. Thanks.
As for my topic for this entry.. Errr.. Ya, I haven't actually started on that. Always feel obliged to crap a little before everything, to suit YOUR liking. Everything I do, I do it for you. ;)
Coffee
I've always liked a balance in everything. And if you think about it, it exists in alot of things already, like my coffee this morning, which is what inspired me to write.
I like the way coffee tastes both bitter and sweet at the same time. And surprisingly, the two flavours go well together. And just to be out-of-point, coffee is my most loyal companion whenever I study because it actually keeps me awake and motivated. You all are useless lah, worse than a non-living fluid!
Dark Chocolate
Chocolates are part and parcel of life. Agree? Yes, you do. And for me, dark chocolate is supreme. It's the one that's least easy to get sick of. The others are just too sweet. Dark chocolate tastes just in-between and leaves you wondering if it's sweetness or bitterness that's lingering on after it's all melted. Am I confusing you? If yes, then it's ok, let it go. As usual, Hanxiang is too deep for you, but you are forgiven.
Chinese Medicine
I was sickly when young, cause of childhood asthma. Sometimes, even after downing times and times of that black liquid, my asthma will still refuse to go away. But I enjoyed taking chinese medicine, because the bitter taste always turned sweet at the throat in the end. To a kid, that was quite fascinating. And being easily distracted, I always focused more on this interesting part of taking bitter medicine than just the bitterness of it. Of course, having asthma meant that I didn't have to go to school!
Siao ah?! I'd rather do my homework and go to school than have an asthma attack. Can you imagine not being able to breathe properly when breathing is precisely what keeps us living? *traumatised*
Shares, 4D, Toto, Blackjack, Mahjong, blah.
I've always wondered why adults can be SO HOOKED on gambling, or, put unpleasantly, on dumping their money on something that produces results that can't even be logically explained. I have this relative, who is so frugal, you'll want to start saving up also because she makes you feel that there's really going to be a natural disaster or something the next minute. Even then, your possessions won't mean anything when it happens right? Ya, so basically, I don't know what's she being so giam for.
THE POINT: She spends like $300-400 on 4D and Toto weekly. Ok, it doesn't sound like much, right? But for a person like her, it's like a stray dog buying Giorgio Armani apparel. In other words, it's off.
Know why the stray dog insists on buying G.A. apparel? Because some other dog has commented before that he looks cool in them.
Likewise, my relative continues squandering money on 4D and Toto because she's won before. Even if it's just once, one sweet incident is enough to make her an addict for life. The many many more times that she loses, the bitterness, she forgets, she ignores. I guess I'll never be able to understand this profound love-hate relationship between my relative and 4D/Toto.
Volleyball, The equal of Wee Nam
As a volleyball player, I went through the process of learning and picking up the basic volleyball skills, getting familiar with them and finally, through time, gaining some confidence that I can be consistent when I play.
You see, when I first started, there were always times when the ball just refuses to go the right direction when I dig. Or it might decide to hit my face rather than my arms. All those were normal for a beginner, but I still felt upset when coaches and seniors gave me THE FACE when I played lousy. (Actually till now, I still do not have a really stable standard. DIE.) But overall, volleyball is really a beautiful game. Some people told me before that I look too stern and serious on court. The reason is because there's a thing I'm very stubborn about when it comes to the game. Every ball matters. Actually it's really only a matter of accounting to myself lah. Cause I don't like to give myself excuses. But my expression after a lousy dig or spike doesn't mean I-give-up ok? It just means I-gotta-do-better!
Then again, if you don't get it, never mind. You're forgiven.
During competitions, we see cheering and team spirit and smiles between team-mates on court. All that brilliance. But much more was used to exchange for all that.
My Secondary School team-mates used to hate our coach. And because of this we shed more tears than we should at some point in time. We often ended up trying too hard to reason with each other, because I was captain and could not allow my team-mates to hate our coach, and they, on the other hand, couldn't understand why that is so. What kind of volleyball team would we have become if we continued hating our coach? (Zhenqin, Jiajia, if you all are reading this, start feeling guilty!) But of course, we grew up and found all those childhood incidents more funny than anything. And up till now, they're some of my best!
I had less of such nonsense during my JC volleyball days. The hard part was about the training. Everyone of us worked really hard for volleyball. We didn't produce much results, but I'M PROUD OF MY TEAM, cause we worked for what we want. Too bad things were not going our way. Ultimately, it is the process that we went through together that's worth reminiscing.
I love my BPGHS and PJC volleyball girls. I don't care how over-sentimental I sound (because maybe I studied too much). I just love my teamS, and the memories, no matter pretty or ugly.
That's all about bittersweetness I have for you. That's all I have for you today. Any other good examples, can just tag. Don't be selfish, share ok?
